El rinoceronte blanco (Ceratotherium simum) es la especie más grande de rinoceronte, con hasta 4,2m de longitud. Se trata de la subespecie del sur C.s.simum, ya que la especie del norte (C.s.cottoni) tiene sus días contados: extinto en estado salvaje, y, tras la muerte del último macho en cautividad y tan solo quedan dos hembras en cautividad, por lo que le queda poco tiempo a esta subespecie.
